Zambian Police have arrested five football fans in Zambia for allegedly attacking a house belonging to their National team striker, Alex N’gonga.
The fans were reportedly unhappy that Ng’onga, missed clear scoring opportunities in their country’s one nil loss to the Super Eagles of Nigeria during a crucial World Cup qualifier last weekend.
The disappointed fans vented their anger by pelting the striker’s house in Zambia’s Kitwe Town with stones.
Charity Katanga, the Regional Police Commissioner said: “We have arrested five people for malicious damage to the property and they have been detained in police custody”.
Nigeria picked the sole ticket in Group B of the Africa qualifying Zone for the World Cup after the victory over Zambia. The defeat to Nigeria ended the Chipolopolo’s hopes of appearing at the World Cup for the first time in their history.
