Woman Forced By Husband To Drink Insecticide Buried

Maureen Adejo and her husband

28-year-old woman Maureen Adejo who was allegedly forced by her husband to drink insecticide, has been buried.

The hearse bearing the remains of the deceased reportedly left LASUTH around 11am on Saturday.

It was gathered that it arrived at the Apostolic Christian Church Mission, Ketu, where it was received by scores of residents and sympathisers.

The body was thereafter taken to the compound of her mother, Kate Jonathan, where she was buried after a dust-to-dust rite.

However, the deceased’s husband, Olaoluwa, was said to be absent from the burial ceremony as he is currently remanded in the Ikoyi prison.

The 32-year-old suspect was arraigned on November 29 before an Ebute-Metta Magistrate Court on a count charge of murder.

His charge sheet read: “That you, Olaoluwa Adejo, on November 12, 2017, at about 6.30pm, on Peluola Street, Oworonshoki, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did kill one Maureen Adejo, aged 28 years, by beating her to death with fist blows and a belt, and also poisoning her food with a Nopex Sniper insecticide, thereby committing an offence contrary to Section 222 and punishable under Section 223 Cap. C17, Vol. 3 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”

While Olaoluwa claimed that his deceased wife took the local insecticide voluntarily, their five-year-old son, Richard, said his father tortured his mother and forced the insecticide down her throat.

The former couple’s union, which was said to have been marred with disagreements, was also blessed with three children.
