A 60-year old man has reportedly drowned in a 120 feet deep well at Imota, in Ikorodu area of Lagos, Southwest Nigeria.
The open well where the man fell into was situated at 16 Ayayo Road, Imota Town Hall. The tragedy took place around 4am on Friday 5 August.
Director, Lagos State Fire Service, Rasak Fadipe said the man was recovered from the well dead around 8:13pm, while giving the name of the deceased as Adeoye Afolabi.
He said the man had woken up around 4am on Friday as he had an appointment to catch as he told his wife to boil water for him to take his bath.
Fadipe said when his wife finished boiling the water, she discovered that the man was nowhere to be found only for him to cite his bathroom slippers close to the well and raised the alarm.
Fadipe advised people having aged people to ensure that they assigned somebody to them. He also advised that wells inside counpound should be covered and padlocked to avoid people falling into them.
