A Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), the Lift Above Poverty Organisation (LAPO), has donated some items to Vicdel School in Ogun State, as part of activities to mark the 2017 Global Hand Wash Day.
The items presented to the school include: buckets with taps, disinfectants, soaps and hand towels.
They were presented to the school’s Proprietor, Mr Oluwashina Adegboyega by the Regional Officer, LAPO Lagos Region 2, Sandra Asowata
In her speech, Asowata said the Global Hand Wash Day was marked on October 15 annually, adding that this year’s theme, “Our Hands, Our Future!”, was very apt.
According to her, “the day aims to bring awareness into people around the globe towards the importance of washing hands regularly.
“It is one of the most basic and effective ways of preventing infections and diseases from affecting one’s health and also of the others around.”
Asowata, while teaching the pupils the various steps of hand washing with soap and water, urged them to wash before eating and after the use of toilet.
She said regular washing of hand help to prevent diseases and infections in order to ensure a healthier society.
“Children are more susceptible to the adverse conditions around, a reason they need to wash hands regularly. If you are around children, the same goes for you too,” she added.
Responding, Adegboyega thanked LAPO for extending the exercise to the school and helping to create awareness on the importance of regular hand washing, especially among young people.
