Alleged billionaire kidnapper Chukwudi Onwuamadike a.k.a. Evans has changed his guilty plea to not guilty.
He made the U-turn today when the Lagos State government made a slight amendment to the charges preferred against him.
From the ammendent, the State is ready to prosecute him under the new Lagos Law on anti-kidnapping which carries death penalty.
At resumed trial, an amended information on the charge brought against the defendants and presented before Justice Hakeem Oshodi by the State prosecutor, Mrs. Titilayo Shitta-Bey made Evans to change his guilty plea to not guilty.
But the prosecutor said all particulars of the charge “have not changed” but the 2nd count on kidnapping which stated that Evans alongside his gang committed contrary to Section 271 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2013 and which Evans previously pleaded guilty to, he is now facing trial under changed Section 155 subsection 1 of the Administration of Criminal Justice 2017.
His alleged gang members also pleaded not guilty.
They pleaded not guilty to two counts of conspiracy and kidnapping.
