60 members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, were on Monday remanded at the Afara Federal Prisons in Aba, in Abia State over charges of terrorism
The defendants were arrested in Umuahia, the capital of Abia, and Isiala Ngwa, among other places, during a clash with the army. They are facing charges of conspiracy, terrorism, attempted murder, membership of unlawful society and rioting, among others.
Counsel to the suspected IPOB members had argued the court lacked jurisdiction to hear the matter, compelling the magistrate to instruct the case file be transferred to the Department for Public Prosecution, DPP, for advice.
The magistrate adjourned the case till October 25.
